We had a great conference May 1-3, 2008 in the Houston area (South Shore Harbor Resort in League City). From the comments we received, everyone had a great time and learned a lot. Elizabeth Gilmore was such an inspiration to us all. What an awesome, unique, interesting life she has had. She has contributed so much to the midwifery community, mothers and babies. Happy Barnes did an outstanding job as always with her workshops on Obesity in Pregnancy and Gestational Diabetes. Lots of new info there. Shonda Parker was also very popular with everyone and I think we all learned a lot more about the use of herbs and natural remedies to help our moms (and ourselves!) with women's health issues for different seasons of a woman's life. We also had wonderful workshops on breastfeeding from Connie Blokkum, IBCLC, mother massage from Christine Messarra, CPM, LMP, Complications of 2nd stage, Deb Phillips, CPM and the panel of midwives on Malpresentation in Labor (Happy Barnes, Alice Brayer, Karen Casares and Sandra McDonald). The pre-conference offerings were NNR, CPR and Suturing. We also had a Blessing Circle at the end of the conference with wonderful sharing from all who attended.    Everyone seemed to enjoy both the raffle of items and the silent auction. We had some great items: A birth pool from Water Birth International, a SlingEZ sling, homeopathic birth kits, Spiritual Midwifery DVD/t-shirt, basket of essential oils, Binsi birthing skirt, wooden birth stool, a birth bag with all the essentials for a new midwife, Midwifery Today subscription, gift certificate from The Uniform Connection, DIVAS Pregnant T-shirt, several gift baskets with candles, etc., prenatal vitamins from Perfect Prenatals, several books (Mother Massage, Birthing in the Spirit, Birthing from Within(2), Urine sticks, Trilight herbs for pregnancy and birth, Sea Salt Scrub, Lansinoh manual breast pump, Glad Rags-fabric pads and liners, Rescue Remedy, Natracare pp pads and breast pads and a set of Cushie washcloths (12) and organic cotton nursing pads (4). Lots of people when home with some wonderful products.    Those of us in the Houston group who worked on the conference learned a lot and we plan to implement some new ideas to make next year's conference even better. 2009's ATM Conference will be the 3rd week of April so get it on your calendars now.
